Scary Maze Review: Get Out of The Maze!

Scary Maze is a hybrid of horror and 1st person action in which you have to protect yourself from hordes of hungry zombies, and manage to get out of the maze alive. Muster up your courage and face the real claustrophobia in narrow muddy corridors full of nasty zombies. Scary Maze downloading is available only for Windows PC exclusively on Steam game market for a very reasonable price.

Graphics 3/5

It’s clear that this is a low-budget indie project, but it really could be at least a little bit more detailed. The similarity of all corridors of the maze could be justified only by the wish of developers to puzzle gamers, but there’s no justification for indecently worked textures and sprites. Low-poly bends look just awful, and the color of muddy vaultings is very nasty. The zombies are also very blurry and edgy.

Gameplay 3/5

The Scary Maze review took a while to figure out that there are no weapons except a handmade wooden slingshot. The hope was strong, but not fulfilled. You have to shoot at least 8 times to kill one enemy, so sometimes it’s absolutely impossible to get through a crowd of dumb underworld creatures. It’s not scary, it’s frustrating. There are two ways of getting through waves of zombies. You can just run away or try to kill as many creatures as possible with the good old hit-and-run technique.

On the other hand, the overall atmosphere in Scary Maze is very depressing and stressful due to repetitive corridors, stretched low-definition textures and randomized waves of zombies. You will feel like there is no end to this disgusting underground journey. However, you should watch the walls to catch different objects. They may help you to get out of the maze faster.

Controls 4/5

Scary Maze is a 1st person action shooter (yes, it is!) and it is controlled with standard WASD-plus-mouse configuration. There’s only one weapon in this game, and it is not very accurate. You have to shoot a little bit sidelong to get at the right point. Misses are normal for this useless piece of wood.

Replay Value 3/5

You really deserve a medal, if you can complete this game without losing your mind. It has one level with corridors that are filled with a fog of different red and brown tints. Finding a way out of this nightmare is a real challenge for cold-blooded gamers.

The Bottom Line

It’s clear that Scary Maze is a controversial horror game. On the one hand, it’s quite scary and depressing. On the other hand, there are many reasons for real frustration. That’s why it’s not fair to suggest this game to everyone. Probably, only the true fans of the genre would be interested in examining this creation of Wonder Cult games studio.

Download Scary Maze, if you have some change left in your pocket and a couple of hours with absolutely nothing to do in an empty house in the middle of nowhere. This game doesn’t deserve more.

Pros : Stressful claustrophobic atmosphere;
Disgusting dumb zombies;
Endless gloomy maze.

Cons : Bad visuals;
